The organizations that we work with are based in Tondo, Manila, beside the former Smokey Mountain dump site. Here, families live in poorly maintained housing, under bridges, and in huts built over water with little or no sanitation or safe drinking water. Most of the 70,000 people living in these communities depend on garbage sorting for recyclables for income. Children are an important part of the labor force and drop out from school or have no access at all to education and, in many cases, are malnourished and at risk of abuse.
This is where our Nanays – Filipino for mother – live with their families. They need training and employment so they can provide for themselves and their families. By buying our products, you support them and help them keeping their kids in school.
